Fences
Published on November 1, 2020 By Panhandler In Fences

I just upgraded one of my PCs from W7 to W10 but, after the upgrade, the free icons on the desktop became immovable and when I tried to move them I got a little circle with an diagonal line. I removed Fences & reinstalled but the very same thing happened. I have been using Fences ever since vs 1.0 came out & I did purchase 3.0 when it came out but am seriously disappointed as I've been reading that other user/owners as far back as 2016 have been reporting the same problem with little success in getting any firm solution. It's enough I had to go through Hrs of W10 updates after the change but to have Fences not working is really upsetting. I need a "fix" for this problem. On my other PC, Fences is working properly.

Hello,

Try Right Click on your Desktop to View

then scroll down to Lock Fences if it's checked

un check it to unlock and see if that helps

then report here please.

I did this [checked it while doing diagnostics] and everything was fine. Uninstalling Fences was the only way I could regain the ability to relocate the icons. Tried installing Fences after & result was the same [all icons locked]. There was a short period of time during reboot [before Fences actually started] when I could move an icon But, as soon as Fences kicked in, the icons all went to a fixed position and then became "locked" again. I'm up to date with the W10 updates, everything else is working fine, just not the "Fence".

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here: https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#reinstalling Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account. Reboot after the purged. Reinstall, and Reboot again after the installation. Retest it. Report back here.
